Adult Mental Health Services

Adult Mental Health programming focuses on the following goals:

Symptom Management and Stabilization

Clinicians, Rehabilitation Specialists, Nurses, and Psychiatrists work with the consumer as part of a treatment team to achieve psychiatric stabilization within the community. Psychotropic medication, verbal therapies, and case management are the primary interventions utilized to reach this goal. The clinical staff may consult with the consumer's family/significant others, residential staff, chemical dependency treatment providers, and other community agencies as necessary to pursue stabilization goals.

Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Recovery

Emphasizing values of consumer empowerment, advocacy, and wellness, staff employ interventions geared to improve consumer satisfaction with their life roles in the areas of living, learning, working, and socializing. The clinical staff works with consumers on skill development, enhancement of their natural support system, and the identification and exercising of their consumer choice. Clinical staff and the consumer collaborate with psychiatric rehabilitation practitioners, educational/vocational personnel, housing providers, benefits specialists, consumer run agencies, and peers to work towards their recovery goals.

Forensic Treatment and Community Safety

Commitment to our consumers involved in the criminal justice system and a commitment to community safety is the focus of our forensic programming. Specialized programming for sexual offenders and perpetrators of domestic violence are offered with group counseling as the primary modality supplemented by individual sessions. Mid-Erie clinicians work closely with the staff of New York State Parole, Erie County Probation, Niagara County Probation, Drug Courts, Domestic Violence Courts, Mental Health Courts, and Erie County Forensic Mental Health with an emphasis on care coordination, communication, and community safety. In addition, mentally ill individuals who are involved in the Criminal Justice System are linked with our existing programming to address their psychiatric and rehabilitation needs.

Adult Mental Health Clinic Treatment

This program is designed for mentally ill consumers who typically need psychiatric intervention weekly or less, to address symptoms that are interfering with their daily functioning. The Seriously and Persistently Mentally Ill and Seriously Mentally Ill individuals at risk for imminent lethality or institutionalization are of the highest priority for treatment and are generally provided longer term supportive counseling and recovery focused interventions. Individuals with acute problems are provided with short-term goal-oriented interventions.

Services are available for adults in the form of individual, family and group counseling. Service plans may include the participation of others with whom the consumer has a relationship.

Medical evaluation and administering of appropriate psychotropic medication may be part of the comprehensive recovery plan that is available in conjunction with counseling services.

Mid-Erie has specialized programming for the Forensic population. We provide services to special need populations who are involved with New York State Division of Parole, Erie County Department of Probation, Niagara County Department of Probation, and other components of the Courts and Criminal Justice System.
